Five Acorns Fell From A Tree a Thought Provoking Poem About Creation

I plan to get back to a poem based on a key chapter of the Bible soon. For now here is a somewhat absurd poem with some sad observations and subtle points to think about.

Five acorns fell and rolling free
Stopped too far to see their tree
And each one had a separate thought
Of how they’d gotten where they’d got

The first had heard the story right
Passed down to him and held on tight
He said, “We’ve fallen from a tree.”
Though there was not a tree to see.

The second spat in argument
“We were made from filament,
That chanced together in the earth
The dirt itself has given birth!”

The third kept busy all day long
His nights were filled with drink and song
He, distracted by his every choice,
Ignored the first one’s patient voice

The fourth was hollow, as it seems
And put his hope in flighty dreams
Some fairies made the acorn race
“I feel it so, so it’s the case!”

The fifth was somber, quiet, sore
He tried so hard to think no more
But troubled by this puzzle deep
He rarely got a night of sleep.

But the truth remained the same for each
Regardless what one chose to teach
And finally all were forced to be
Face to face with the great oak tree.

My name is Adam Nitz. I was trained as a Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) Pastor and was privileged to serve a congregation in Michigan for three years. After much wrestling in prayer and evaluating personal and family considerations I resigned my call. Part of the new direction my life has taken includes creative writing. I’ve always loved to write. Growing up I filled notebooks with poetry and reflections on life, faith, people and God. I just recently published a novel. I took a real person mentioned briefly in the Bible and imagined what his life's journey may have been like. If you’d like to follow my journey as an author feel free to check out my other blog at www.adamnitz.com. Please check out my book: I Was There When the Giant Fell at www.createspace.com/4761654 or search the title on Amazon.com. I pray that God will use all these writings to bring more people into closer contact with his saving truth--his mighty Word and that hearts and lives are changed by God’s boundless message of grace.

I am copying this poem to give with a wooden serving tray embellished with two acorns. The recipient is a new Cantor come to my shul. He is an old soul in a young body. The poem is thought provoking , strangely, at any age. Congrats and thanks!
