Him + Her
Meet Seth and Jenna Herlich, of the Twin Cities, Minnesota band, “Him + Her”. These young musicians posses a blend of characteristics often unseen: humbleness, paired with performance talent and adventurous spirits. The main message of their music?
“Make me less, make God more. It’s not about me.”
Jenna Herlich: If you’re hoping to be ‘big’ in the Christian music community, you absolutely cannot make it about you. You are a servant with a message. You should have confidence in your gifts, but remember that they are just that: gifts. We play music because it connects with people in a way that other things don’t. We want people to leave our concerts feeling refreshed and ready to enter their own personal mission field.
The couple put that conviction into action as they packed the essentials into a thirteen-foot camper this summer, and hit the road with a mission to “connect people to Jesus, and inspire.”
JH: We started making music videos, writing and recording songs, and planning for a tour that would span 20,000 miles and hit 30 different churches on both coasts of the United States. It was a whirlwind of getting things done and hustling, even as both of us worked
Bread for Beggars: What moves somebody to follow their dreams like this?
Seth Herlich: Music to me is almost like an affliction. I feel like it’s a calling that I’ve always had, but when I try to deny or reject it, everything always falls apart. So often when we are writing our worship songs we are inspired by God’s Word. When you are a song writer, you look at Scriptures in a completely different way. Stick to solid doctrine, and make sure the lyrics are powerful and meaningful.
We’re excited to see what adventures this couple plans next… maybe you’ll see their camper near your church soon. To learn more about Seth and Jenna, visit their webpage and listen to their musings on their podcast, ‘What do I know’.
