Worship the King a poem by Adam Nitz

Worship the Lord

It is easy to think that worship is something that goes on only in church on Sunday. Really worship is something we are doing all the time. Our whole life ought to worship the true God. Our choices reveal where our heart is at. There’s nothing wrong with entertainment as such, but the obsession and fascination for entertainment and Hollywood that goes on in our culture and the hunger for fame and stardom can be a serious distraction from what matters most. Reflecting on those thoughts, I wrote the following poem. God’s blessings as you worship your King.

From the safety of our own obscurity
How easy to bow to the people we see
Those who willingly, or unwillingly bare their lives
To the gleam of the lime-light and the crowd’s cries
Yet in the white hot heat we often see
How fickle and foolish and false our human idols can be
But our worship continues, we follow like sheep
We swallow their doctrines, entertained and asleep
And whether we censure them or give them praise
Our fascination continues. We give dollars and days.

That our worship of them, is our worship of “me”
For when I approve and applaud and am awed
I’m part of a crowd, sharing light with a “god”
And when I reject and defect and dissect
I can laugh at their flaws and pretend “I’m not that wrecked!”
Truly the brightest and best that a human can be
Is to realize the truth in God-given humility
Confessing “I’m a sinner…I bring nothing from me…
Forgiveness in Jesus alone sets me free!”
Yes all that the world pays attention to now
Will change and fade and fall apart somehow
Only One will stand in the lime-light forever
So worship and serve Him, Your Jesus, Your Savior!

My name is Adam Nitz. I was trained as a Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) Pastor and was privileged to serve a congregation in Michigan for three years. After much wrestling in prayer and evaluating personal and family considerations I resigned my call. Part of the new direction my life has taken includes creative writing. I’ve always loved to write. Growing up I filled notebooks with poetry and reflections on life, faith, people and God. I just recently published a novel. I took a real person mentioned briefly in the Bible and imagined what his life's journey may have been like. If you’d like to follow my journey as an author feel free to check out my other blog at www.adamnitz.com. Please check out my book: I Was There When the Giant Fell at www.createspace.com/4761654 or search the title on Amazon.com. I pray that God will use all these writings to bring more people into closer contact with his saving truth--his mighty Word and that hearts and lives are changed by God’s boundless message of grace.
