Daily Bread Lectionary Devotions
Scroll down to see the full list of Daily Bread Lectionary Devotions outlined by season of the church year. Check back each week for a new Daily Bread Lectionary Devotion, which will be posted as a two page printable PDF. You can either use the PDF digitally or better yet, why not print out the document at the start of the week and then spend time day in God’s Word-away from the distractions of the digital world. Pastors feel free to print out these devotional guides and share them with the members of your congregations to help them prepare for worship the next Sunday.
These devotions are designed for you to use as an individual or with a small group. The outline and format of the devotions will vary with time. The current devotions follow a simple pattern of meditation using the Psalm, Prayer, Verse of the Day and the Bible lessons assigned for that week in the church year. On the second page of the devotional outline is a simple set of questions and short introductions to each lesson to help you begin your personal meditation.
The simple questions follow the pattern of A Simple Way to Pray which we affectionately call Luther’s Four Big Barber Questions. (Learn more about those questions and A Simple Way to Pray )
The devotion texts follow the readings assigned for the following Sunday in the church year based on the readings in Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal and Christian Worship: Supplement. Studying in this way will allow you to become familiar with the lessons that you will hear and meditate upon during corporate worship later in the week.
Please feel free to share these simple devotions with your friends and members of your congregation. Also if you have any feedback on how these devotions could be more useful to you and others, please feel free to comment below.
Thank you to the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod’s (WELS) Commission on Worship for permitting the use of the document Planning Christian Worship from which the lesson introductions are drawn. Special thanks to Planning Christian Worship writers/editors: Jonathan E. Schroeder–Year A, Daniel M. Deutschlander–Year B, and Joel J. Gawrisch–Year C.
